Resto Druid Healing Tips and Tricks

Hey guys this is Delleyntar from the Dalaran Server. I’m here to talk to you about a few Resto Druid End game Healing tips and Tricks.

There’s a few things that I’ve learned while being a druid that can either Help or Hurt your healing, so I want to go over my Talent tree, Spell rotation, My Glyphs, Buffs, and of course, stats on gear. While Gear is a good part of how well you heal, Your Spell Rotation, What talents are being used and what buffs you have up can either help or hurt your game.

So Lets get started....

My Talent tree is currently set up as 12points in balance and 59 points in Restoration. The 12 points in the Balance tree is essential because it adds mana reduction, as well as Crits on some of your heals. I will go over each and every talent, as well as to why I have chose them.

First talent is Genesis; I have 5 points into that. This talent increases the Healing Done by my Healing effects by 5%. So lets give a small example. Lifebloom with out any buffs or talents, Heals the target for 371 over 7 seconds. When you put Lifebloom up (lets assume you had put up a 3 stack) There is a 5% Bonus on that 371 base heal. So then the base turns into 389 (added 3 times for a Heal over time for 1167. Then at the end it will "Bloom" healing your target for 970. So add 5% and you have a bloom of 1018. Now that seems like little...But add all the other talents and you have an End bloom up to 19k. Seem Impossible? Not really. Lets move on....

The next Talent I have is 3 points in Moonglow...This reduces the mana cost of my Healing touch, Rejuvenation, Nourish, and regrowth. Mana is the most important tool you have. So conserve it wherever you can.

Next I have 2 points in Natures Majesty. This increases my Crit Chance by 4% on my Healing Touch and Nourish. Crit is important for the sole fact that it can equal out to larger heals. Now Even though we don’t use healing touch (I will go over that in a bit) the Nourish Crit chance is what we are aiming for in this talent.

Next I have 1 point in Natures Grace. This talent has an effect that all spell crits have a 33% chance to Grace with a blessing of nature increasing my spell casting speed by 20% for 3 seconds. Now This is important because of the fact, when you are using Nourish, or regrowth or any longer heal that will have a crit chance, that means your target is pretty low on health. So with this going off, your bigger heals will become faster for those next 3 seconds, allowing you to get your target back to full health again.

Next and Last point in balance is in Natures Splendor. This talent increases the Duration of my Rejuvenation by 3 seconds, Lifebloom by 2 seconds, and regrowth by 6 seconds. This is important solely because of mana saving, the longer your hots are on.... the less you need to refresh them.

So now that covers the Balance tree. I will now go over the Restoration tree.

In this section I will go over what NOT to use in your tree.

Furor is unnecessary for a resto druid. It may be in your resto tree but it has nothing to do with healing. The talent gives you Gives you X% chance to gain 10 Rage when you shape shift into Bear and Dire Bear Form, and you keep up to Y of your Energy when you shape shift into Cat Form, and increases your total Intellect while in Moonkin form by Z%.

This talent gives noting while you're in the tree of life form so you can omit that.

Next, Omit Naturalist, You will not be using Healing touch at all in your end game, so points in that is not needed.... You as why we don’t use healing touch?

It takes too long and too much mana, and really doesn’t heal as well as nourish or Regrowth does as far as Burst healing is concerned. Plus there are other ways to get a burst healing but I will go over that in the spell rotation section.

Next Omit Tranquil Spirit Even though it has a mana reduction cost for Nourish in that, We wont be using Nourish enough for that talent to be concerned.

Next Omit Improved Tranquility. Now this is a hard decision I know but as far as your other talents are concerned, this is least important.

Next omit Empowered Touch, because again, we will not be using healing touch.

And lastly, we can omit improved barkskin, because while in raids, this is very unimportant.

Now the 59 talents you have you can fill out everything to the Max. These talents are based on your Very important HoTs that will be very beneficial; I will no go over Glyphs since they have important factors that help my spells.

First is Glyph of Wild Growth. Wild Growth in its self heals 5 People with in 15 yards for 686 for over 7 seconds (a lot more when you have your crit and SP bonus') But with the glyph, it heals one more additional target, so while doing a 10 or 25 man raid healing that extra person is very beneficial.

Next I have Glyph of swift mend. The Swift mend Ability Consumes a regrowth or a Rejuvenation effect to Instantly heal them the amount over 12 seconds of rejuvenation or 18 sec of regrowth (I will get more into the swiftmend ability in my spell rotation section) So with Glyph of swiftmend, It no longer consumes these effects, Rather, Still Heals for the amount it would normally, but still leaving the hot ticking.

And last glyph I have is Glyph of rejuvenation. This glyph heals for an additional 50% health when you put it on a target that has less than 50% health. Thats really all you need to be concernd as far as Major Glyphs go. Minor glyphs you can do what you like, like I have Glyph of aquatic form, Glyph of Unburdened rebirth and Glyph of the wild. But none, which are necessary for you’re effective healing.

Next I will go over my spell rotation that I seem to have found to be the most effective when it comes to raid healing.

When we first encounter either trash or a boss, I first put up Wild Growth on the party to get the first hots ticking, Then if I am raid healing I will but lifebloom x1 on each person after I do that, I will hit Wild growth again to get anyone I missed. Since usually the tank does take the most damage I will put lifebloom x3 on the tank, and rejuvenation. And this is pretty much it as far as raid healing goes. Nothing much to it, Wild growth every 6 seconds and Lifebloom for the crowd, with more stacks going on the people taking more damage.

As far as Single target healing goes, If you are doing a boss that the tank takes a lot of damage you want to stack up all your hots on him, So in a typical instance, Lets say we are healing for XT, and I am assigned for the Main tank, what I would do is

Natures Swiftness to Make my regrowth Spell Instant and put that up first, then I would stack lifebloom 3 times, then put on rejuvenation, then wildgrowth, refresh lifebloom and then repeat, casting regrowth again. Make sure you watch the timers on the hots. Remember, when you cast Regrowth, if it crits it has a 100% chance to plant a living seed on the tank, which will bloom when the tank is next attacked (and damaged) healing for 30% of the amount healed.

When you have all these hots going it is still possible the tank can lose more heath, this is where swiftmend comes into play, Hit that and since you have your regrowth and rejuvenation going, this will take these 2 effects, add it and heal your tank for about 3/4 of his health. Add Nourish to this and you have your tank at full health

Awareness is key to this; if you feel that your hots aren’t doing enough healing, make sure they are all up. If the tank is taking a lot of damage (and this is assuming that he is Defense capped) you may want to use nourish a few times just to get him over 75% health. Play around with it a bit, But once you get into the rotation, you will see what kind of heals are needed for each boss..

Lastly I will go over gear.

Tip #1: While most of the leather healing gear has haste on it (the Tier gear has haste as well) I actually think the Crit gear is actually better.

Reason being: While Lifebloom is the most used HoT I use, it ticks for 6 seconds and the 7th second it "blooms" Healing targets for a larger amount...

Now with crit gear it allows my final "bloom" to Crit for up to 7k-19k

Tip #2: Haste Gear is a must for certain bosses.

This is where blizzard was right with haste healing gear.... for certain bosses.... Haste is VERY important ESPICALLY when it comes to the tank taking more damage. With more haste Regrowth is a bit faster, as well as nourish. As time goes on you will see what bosses you would rather use fast heals rather than strong heals (Such as Loathb for the Crit heals and Patchwerk for the fast ones) so collect both types of gear.

But for the most part I personally rather have crit over haste because id rather my small hots, heal for more then my bigger (and more mana costing heals) cast faster.

The thing I always go for, and this is in order as far as gear importance goes

Spell power > Intel > MP5> Crit > Haste > Stam > Spirit

If a piece of Leather gear has lets say 88 spell power, 50 intel, 43 stam 18 spirit and plus haste at 23

and another piece of Cloth gear has 109 spellpower 49 intel 40 stam 10mp5 and crit at 46...

I would go for the one that has more spellpower. and MP5 Even tho it has less of the other stats, the more spellpower you have, Effectively makes your heals stronger and in turn you don’t need as much mana. Also the Mp5 is very important since spirit has been nerfed and it doesn’t do as much as mp5 does now.

You want to go for Leather gear, but some times a cloth piece is a better upgrade so go for that instead. Don’t be afraid, go on; the Reduction in armor you get is not that bad considering since you’re not up in the action much anyway

Enchants and Gems are important so try to stick with ones that give you Spell power, Intel and Mp5.

That’s pretty much it as far as End Game healing goes. As you get more practice you would get see what gear is > then other, and what heals work better than other.
